Residential Burglar Arrested

Arrested:  King, Jon J; 34 year of age male, Richland resident

Charges:  3 counts Residential Burglary, Resisting Arrest

On 3-27-2013 at about 9:45 PM Richland officers responded to a call of suspicious circumstances in the 200 block of Gage Blvd.  A female caller reported a male subject had entered her residence and had attempted entry into her bedroom.  The victim screamed and the male subject fled out the back door.

The residential areas in and around the Meadow Springs Golf Course have had a significant number of occupied residential burglaries since May, 2012.  This report fit the same pattern.

Responding patrol units were in the area when a second call was received at 10:00 PM in the 300 block of Quailwood Place.  Neighbors called to report seeing a male subject inside their neighbor’s home.  The suspect was seen on the porch and inside the kitchen area with a flashlight.  The residence was occupied at the time of the burglary.

Officers set up containment around the residence and could see flashlight beams inside the home.  A call was made to the residence and a short time later King exited the home and was taken into custody. King fought with officers while he was being arrested.

The interior of the home was searched and an elderly female resident contacted.  She was unaware of King’s presence and stated that no one had permission to be inside her residence.

King was wearing Nike shoes with a very distinct pattern on the sole.  This same pattern has been discovered at other burglary scenes in the immediate area.

Property from three residences was found on King’s person and in the immediate area of his arrest.  Included was a bottle of alcohol, silver coins, a back pack, hospital ID, leather notebook, and cash. Three separate victims have been identified from this incident.

A detective and evidence technician was called to assist with processing the scene and stolen property.  A search warrant may be served at a later time.

Contact was made with the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office.  A felony 72 hour hold was approved. King was booked into the Benton County jail on the above charges.

Richland Police Implement SmartForce™

The Richland Police Department has implemented SmartForce™, a solution designed by Adventos Consulting to help law enforcement agencies reduce risk and maximize department efficiency.  SmartForce™ was developed by Adventos in partnership with the City of Richland to make sure the solution would meet the needs of not only the RPD, but the majority of departments nationwide.

The Richland SmartForce™ project centralized the management of administrative, operations, community, and command staff information workflows and processes at the City of Richland.  Overall, SmartForce™ is a collaboration tool that increases operational awareness at all levels while bridging communications gaps for Richland.  At the Regional level, communication and collaboration will also be possible with members of the Tri-City Auto Theft Network.  Law enforcement personnel from each participating organization will be able to access information on current auto theft patterns, suspects, cases and involvements.

Positive impacts include:

·         Lower operating costs in the department
·         Reduced legal risk from stronger case management
·         More responsive allocation of police resources
·         Reduced cost of collaboration and communication
·         Organized and more efficient document management
·         Up to date and easy to locate information and intelligence sharing
·         Integrated information and analysis, helping maximize tactical and strategic planning

The most innovative element of SmartForce™ is that it responds to a longstanding need in police agencies by building intuitive workflow processing on one of the strongest collaboration platforms available (Microsoft SharePoint).  The results resolve slow, paper-based reporting and monitoring processes with faster and more responsive technology.  This literally makes communities and officers safer.  Because it is Cloud based, there are no server hardware costs and it is less labor intensive to maintain.  Allowing personnel to be more efficient via a technology that is easy to use and operate is a key to success.
