RE: AHWAHNEE MAN WANTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER CAPTURED IN WASHINGTON
Madera County – Sheriff John Anderson this afternoon announced Adrian Joseph Reyes, wanted for attempted murder, is behind bars -- captured shortly after 10 AM June 12 in Richland, WA.
The
Madera County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for the 29-year old Ahwahnee
man following a violent attack on another man in Coarsegold in April.
Both
Reyes and 20-year old Robert Lee Huber, of Oakhurst, were both wanted for
robbing a man, beating him, and then shooting him during the early morning
hours of April 2.
Huber
was captured last month by Metro Police in Las Vegas. He was extradited to
Madera on May 28 and promptly booked into Madera County Department of Corrections,
where he remains on a no-bail hold.
As
for Reyes, a tip to Crime Stoppers in Washington, led to his arrest. Because
the fugitive was considered armed and dangerous, several law enforcement
agencies were called in to assist in his apprehension.
HOW
THEY CAPTURED MADERA COUNTY’S MOST WANTED & DANGEROUS FUGITIVE
At
round 4 pm June 11, the Kennewick Police Department, which also coordinates
the regional Crime Stoppers Tip line for that part of Washington State,
received a tip that Reyes could be found hiding in a house located on Davenport
Street in Richland.
Kennewick
Police immediately notified Richland Police, who in turn coordinated with
the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
Recognizing
the danger that Reyes possibly posed, the agencies worked together to
quickly organize a multi-agency team to carry out the operation.
Teams
involved in his apprehension included: Fugitive Task Force Officers with the US
Marshals Service, Richland PD’s Street Crimes Unit and Field Operations staff, Benton County Sheriff's Office, Kennewick Police, and the Tri-City Regional
SWAT Team.
Shortly
before 10 AM June 12, Reyes was spotted leaving the house on Davenport
Street. He then got into his car and drove off. When Officers tried to pull him
over, he took off at a high rate of speed, then pulled into the parking lot of
nearby Fran Rish Stadium. Reyes ditched the car, and led officers on a foot chase through
the parking lot, then through a commercial district in the city, where the
chase finally ended when he, quite literally, ran straight into the arms of
officers.
Reyes
was taken into custody without incident and transported to Benton County jail where
he was booked for felony eluding and obstruction. He remains jailed awaiting
extradition to Madera County on murder charges.
Meantime,
Sheriff John Anderson commended the excellent work of all sworn personnel
involved. And, he also credits Crime Stoppers for helping to clear this
case.
With
the advent of social media, he says, “Let this arrest be a warning to all
fugitives: you can run, but you can no longer hide.”
