Burglar Arrested
14-23728
Arrested: 16 year old transient male
Synopsis:
On 11/27/14, a Richland resident discovered a burglary had occurred at her residence located in the 200 block of Douglass. Officers determined the burglar entered the occupied residence while one of the residents was asleep. Property was stolen during the burglary.
On 11/28/14, a Richland resident awoke to discover a burglar in her residence. The burglar threatened the resident while holding a large flashlight. The burglar fled with property stolen from the residence. The resident called the RPD and provided a description of the burglar. Pasco Police assisted the RPD with a K-9 track which tracked the offender to the 300 block of Goethals. Due to the conditions (30 mph winds) officers were not able to determine an exact last known location. During the investigation officers learned of an unreported burglary which happened the day before in the 200 block of Douglass.
A couple of hours later, a resident in the same neighborhood reported a suspicious male in the area. Officers located the male passed out in the yard of a neighbor. The resident from the earlier burglary was able to positively identify the male as the burglar she had encountered earlier. The male was transported to Kadlec for treatment from what appeared to be intoxication. The male was admitted into Kadlec.
A search warrant was served at an address in the 300 block of Goethals where property from three neighborhood burglaries was located.
On 11/29/14, RPD attempted to locate the male to arrest him and learned he was no longer at Kadlec. Officers located the male in the 300 block of Goethals. The male fled from officers. Officers secured the area. Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff's Office arrived and provided K-9 support to track the suspect. When officers attempted to arrest the male he assaulted officers and the K-9. The male was eventually taken into custody and transported to Kadlec where he was treated for injuries suffered during the arrest. The male was booked into the Benton/Franklin County Juvenile facility for numerous felony crimes including: robbery, residential burglary, and assault on a police officer.
